Why Life Skills Are Also Needed

Why Life Skills Are Also Needed I have often written about the skills, attributes, and experience that a recruiter should ideally possess to be successful however I wanted to take the opportunity to recommend the other aspects of your life you should also focus on if you want to ensure you achieve all of your potentials. Yes, it is great to get a good degree, to be the top achiever in the business, however, what life skills do you lack or should have been developed in during your formative days? As a parent and business owner, I believe these areas are often overlooked and yet ironically, these personal abilities can often make you stand out amongst other applicants and employees. These tips are not intended to berate the education system in whatever country you are reading this in although I do with that the educators would consider this list as important as English, maths, and science. I can remember at school the brightest girl, all A grades in every subject, best swimmer, tennis player, etc. However, she didn’t know how to use her bank card to withdraw cash, something I have always remembered. Money management: The first one on the list and probably the most important one; how do you manage your money now? Do you budget each month or throw yourself through the month to each payday to find yourself short each month. starting habits early on by saving 10-15% of your salary and if you get bonus/commission in your job, save (up to) 50% of it in a higher interest account. You will thank me one day. It is a habit that will ensure you will have a deposit for a house and ensure when you look back you will have something tangible to show for your efforts and hard work. Driving: I realize that learning to drive is an expensive process and one which may seem a privilege to many: however I can’t emphasize enough how frustrating it is to interview someone and to think of their perfect company only to find they don’t drive so can’t get there (and public transport isn’t viable). Invest in this when you are of the correct age to apply for a provisional license and I promise you will be grateful to opportunities as they present themselves to you. Cooking: Yes, this is a business blog but I think being able to look after yourself by preparing healthy meals is essential for your whole well being. I know that basic food technology is taught at secondary school however with youtube videos and cookery books aplenty, teach yourself a genre of food you enjoy- there is no right or wrong as long as it is fresh, satisfying and healthy. Hobby: Having a hobby is an essential switch off from life and stress; whatever your interests are- reading, running, swimming, fishing, I am a huge believer that you should make time DAILY to be alone and take stock of your day. This allows for reflection, self-learning, a chance to de-stress and hopefully also learn a new skill too. Always helpful for the CV section of ‘hobbies’ too. Technology: Most people reading this will have a fairly good understanding of technology with apps and social media at their fingertips. But keep up-skilling yourself too on the latest apps and software to help you do your job and run your life more efficiently. Communication: The key to any successful relationship, whether that is work, personal or love, is communication. Listening, having empathy, keeping calm and thinking through a response are things you learn as you get older. If I could have read one book as a newbie in work it is CHIMP PARADOX by Dr. Steve Peters and I would recommend you do too so you can be aware of how you control your elementary personality. Above all else, find your own path to contentment and joy EVERY day in the small tasks you do and be true to yourself. Don’t follow someone else’s dreams.

3 After-Work Hobbies to Keep You Happy and Sane

3 After-Work Hobbies to Keep You Happy and Sane For many people, work is the single greatest stress factor in their lives. They go to work, deal with high-stress situations, and then carry some of the work â€" or at least anxiety from what happened at work â€"home with them. This creates a cycle of chronic stress that’s unhealthy and unproductive. It deteriorates their health, shortens their career longevity, and has a negative impact on overall happiness and daily satisfaction. In fact, according to a data published in the Harvard Business Review, women actually feel more stress at work than their male counterparts. While you might consider a career pivot, this isn’t always necessary. It’s possible that your next job will be just as intense and stressful â€" that’s just the nature of today’s business world. What you really need to do is pick up an after-work hobby to keep you sane. Hobbies Not Just For Grandma!  The word “hobby” might sound like something your grandmother does with her knitting club, but don’t let the term fool you. Hobbies can be fun and often serve as healthy, constructive outlets for stress and anxiety. According to one study, “those who are in stressful jobs that normally contribute to burnout (low-control, high-demand jobs, for example) feel less of a need to ‘recover’ from their day at bedtime if they have more physical or social leisure activities that aren’t work-relatedâ€"more hobbies.”  Not sure where to start to find some new hobbies? Here are a few suggestions specifically designed for stress relief:  Fly Fishing  Most people have gone fishing a time or two in their lives, but have you tried fly fishing? It’s a unique sport that’s easy to get started with, yet difficult to master. One of the best things about fly fishing is that you don’t need a whole lot to get started. And because you can practice casting on land, you don’t even have to be on the water all the time. Sportsman’s Finest recommends owning a variety of rods â€" like an 8-weight for saltwater flats and rivers/lakes, as well as a 5-weight for a good, all-around rod for bluegills or trout â€" and practicing as much as you can.  Weightlifting  If you sit behind a desk all day, the stress you experience has probably translated into tension in your muscles â€" particularly in the neck, shoulders, and back. One of the best things you can do for your mental sanity and physical condition is to pump some iron at the gym. Most people don’t think about weightlifting as a hobby, but it is for a lot of people. You can actually look forward to lifting weights and feeling that release of tension.  Painting  Perhaps you spend your day moving a mile a minute and want a hobby that allows you to slow down some and enjoy a little peace and tranquility. Give painting a try. Most people are surprised to learn that painting isn’t as impossible as it looks. While you aren’t going to create a masterpiece anytime soon, you’ll find a lot of enjoyment in messing around with some basic colors, brushes, and landscapes.  Find a Hobby That Fits Your Lifestyle The hope is that you’ll enjoy your new hobby and get a lot out of it.   But the ultimate goal â€" at least for busy professionals in high-stress jobs â€" is to find some balance. As you’ll notice, most of these hobbies provide some sort of balance when stacked against your daily routine at work. While you might not be particularly good at fly fishing or painting, that’s not the point. The goal is to take your mind off of work and hone a new skill that’s healthy, unique, and satisfying. Are you willing to give it a shot?

How To Get Someone Fired 5 Steps To Termination - Algrim.co

How To Get Someone Fired 5 Steps To Termination - Algrim.co Do you want to get someone terminated? Is there an issue in the workplace that you can’t seem to overcome? If you really want to engage in the process of trying to get someone terminated, keep reading. Having a bad coworker in the work environment can be detrimental to progress. Especially during times of stress on the business. You don’t want to have a hostile work environment. And you don’t see any other option besides attempting to get someone terminated. Getting someone terminated is not an easy task. Here are the steps that you should follow if you want to attempt this difficult task. Table of Contents First, Prepare Your Case Second, Prepare For Hard Conversations Third, Bring Up The Facts To Human Resources Fourth, Loop In Your Supervisor Before You Decide To Try And Get Someone Fired First, Prepare Your Case Before you go to speak with your Human Resources department, gather the information that’s required in order to present it accurately to Human Resources. Be sure that you aren’t positioning your case as an emotional one. For example, how someone made you feel. If the Human Resources department sees that you’re mentioning an emotional response, they’ll try to work with you and the other colleague to resolve the friction. Put together reasons why this person's actions are harmful to the company. Take a very subjective approach when you’re gathering your information. Keep your facts simple and to the point. Don’t bring up other coworkers. All you have to do is say, “By Ian missing this deadline, our team fell behind 3 months.” Short, to the point, and multiple facts. Second, Prepare For Hard Conversations It’s not going to be as simple as you think. You can’t simply complain about another colleague and expect them to be terminated. You will be engaging in frequent conversations. You should be prepared for this process as it’s not the easiest. Third, Bring Up The Facts To Human Resources When presenting your facts to Human Resources, be sure to mention the employee’s actions and how those actions had an impact on the team and business. You’ll need to present enough facts that this isn’t a first-time occurrence, as well. Mention to Human Resources that you attempted to talk with your colleague about the issues you were facing as a team and how their actions impacted that. Then, mention to Human Resources that if that colleague stayed with your team, you would most likely leave the business. And that’s how deep the issue is. From there, Human Resources will speak to the colleague about the complaints. They may not terminate that person immediately. But at that point, your colleague will have a formal warning. After that point, if you file more complaints along similar lines, Human Resources will most likely have to terminate that employee. Fourth, Loop In Your Supervisor If you went directly to Human Resources, you need to bring this up to your supervisor. It’s okay if you don’t speak to your supervisor first. But they should be aware. As a manager, it will be their job to understand there is friction in the workplace. And they may attempt to move you away from the person you’re trying to get fired in order to mitigate the situation. Be sure that you’re prepared for the outcome of this process, as part of it may be you being transitioned into another team or other department. Before You Decide To Try And Get Someone Fired You should always try to speak with your colleague. Resolve the issue if you can. Use healthy verbal communication skills to reduce friction in the workforce. The reality is that if you do successfully get another colleague terminated, there’s a great chance another professional will be hired who may be just as bad. Work with the people you have relationships with. It is always easier than overreacting. Be sure that your issue isn’t something that’s specific to you. Are you feeling hurt? Are you feeling betrayed? Is this something that you need to work on? These are healthy questions. And you should ask them to yourself before you decide to go down this path. There’s a good chance that by trying to get another colleague fired, you will be perceived as the poor employee. So be sure you spent the time to try and resolve any working issues before you go to Human Resources and ask them to do their job.
