A Day In The Life Veterans Forward Career Coach

As a Career Coach for Veterans Forward, I personally help my clients make their profession goals a reality. There’s no such factor as a typical day at a nonprofit company. Every day is different and requires totally different duties to get issues carried out. For the most half, throughout the week I am assembly with shoppers and interacting with potential veteran purchasers. My duties to my shoppers span the complete week and range from consulting clients on their job search and career targets to networking with counterparts all through the veteran neighborhood. Far and away my busiest days occur throughout our new Job Ready Boot Camps. These two-day workshops act as the preliminary training and orientation for new Veterans Forward shoppers. The workshops begin at 10:00 a.m., but preparations begin hours earlier than that. Two of our Chicagoland locations â€" Able’s headquarters in the West Loop and the Chicago Workforce Center in Pilsen â€" have lecture rooms with the computer workstations and audio/visible systems to provide an immersive coaching environment with quite a few sources. The seven hours of training each day covers a range of specific matters leading off with an introduction to our group and our strategy to job search which is provided by Veterans Forward Director, Len Harris. During this time, I am busy making preparations for the afternoon session which focuses on core messaging and effective private branding. The following day, our purchasers construct a jobseeker “toolbox” that can assist them in their job search. This toolbox incorporates a listing of goal veteran-pleasant companies, efficient networking techniques, and an professional-degree LinkedIn profile. Each cohort that comes out of our Job Ready Boot Camp is trained, motivated, and prepared to work together on their job search. Most go on to both a Job Search Work Team or Job Club with a brand new enthusiasm and power than once they got here in. That results in quicker placements and a safer future. A day in the life of a Veterans Career Coach can be exhausting, but seeing the success of our purchasers is what makes it worthwhile.
